A terminally-ill 17-year-old has become the first minor to be
helped to die in Belgium since age restrictions on euthanasia requests
were removed two years ago, officials say.
The head of the federal euthanasia commission said the teenager was
“suffering unbearable physical pain”.
Belgium is the only country that allows minors of any age to choose
euthanasia.
They must have rational decision-making capacity and be in the final
stages of a terminal illness. The parents of the under-18 year olds
must also give their consent.
Euthanasia commission head Wim Distelmans said the teenager was “nearly
18”. He said doctors used “palliative sedation”, which involves bringing
patients into an induced coma, as part of the process,
“Fortunately there are very few children who are considered [for
euthanasia] but that does not mean we should refuse them the right to a
dignified death,” he told the Het Nieuwsblad newspaper.
I know this isn’t really the right place, but I was wondering if you knew of any places that ship non diluted helium tanks?
I’ve been looking into the exit bag method as it is one of the only ones I think will actually work for me. I cannot leave the house so I have to have the tools used for suicide shipped directly to me.
Using a shotgun is out of the question, obtaining one would be very difficult. I obviously can’t leave to jump off of a high place somewhere, nor would I really want to. Hanging sounds like a particularly painful way to die, and swallowing a load of medication sounds agonizing as well.
I would really appreciate the help, I can’t seem to find any places that ship anything other than the 20% oxygen helium tanks for balloons. I live in the US as well so it can’t be from a company that ships outside of the US.
Maggotbrain (!) As pure helium is now hard (but not impossible) to obtain, some people wanting self-deliverance from painful terminal illness are turning to another inert — Nitrogen — which is equally lethal when inhaled inside a plastic bag.
It can be ordered from gas supply companies on the internet and they will deliver via ground courier. Or obtained from gas supply companies on most main drags in American cities. Check Yellow Pages.
