I have to admit I was completely against assisted death, I watched my dad battle cancer with everything he had and he lived 15yrs longer than ever expected and at the end he peacefully fell asleep January 9th 2005…Then my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in 2013 they gave her no more than 6 months but she also was a fighter and she fought with every ounce of her life and I was amazed and in Aww of her and her bravery and again I was still against assisted death, I guess I looked at it as giving up and giving in..I was so wrong and I 100% back assisted death…On May 16th 2015 she started going down hill fast her pain was horrible, we were told hospice could keep her comfortable that was farthest from the truth…My mom drowned on her own bile from her liver for almost 30 minutes while none of the medications worked…She begged for help and we were helpless..My mother never got to just fall asleep peacefully it was horrific and devastating and during that moment while we laid with her trying to calm her all I could think was I wish we would of checked into assisted suicide she deserved to pass away peacefully…My mother was amazing and a great person and deserved a peaceful ending. This is my biggest regret that we didn’t have it on hand just incase. We do live in a state that it’s legal but we were told she would just fall asleep. I’m hoping that others read this and change there mind about this…EVERYONE deserves better than to die the way she did. I would love to know how to get involved in helping this cause out. Thanks for reading my story
