After 50 years of trying, New South Wales today passed the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act permitting doctors to help seriously ill people to die. Now all Australian states have similar laws, although the two ‘territorities’  (Northern Territory and ACT) cannot do so under the constitution — which may be changed in the near future.
