Can anyone tell me if a helium balloon kit will last for any length of time if bought ahead of time? How long ahead can I buy one of these kits and still have it effective? Any advice appreciated. Vanayssa

A N S W E R : The kits will last for ever if well taken care of. It's the tanks of helium which might deteriorate after about a year. But there is no sound science on this last point. NOTE that GLADD, which sold these kits, has been closed by the FBI.

It makes me sad, but not surprised, to see people with a mental illness being unfairly discriminated against yet again. Conditions like severe recurrent depression are so poorly understood by the general public, which perpetuates ignorance and stigmatised viewpoints about mental illness. Mental illness can be just as "disabling" as physical illness. What it should come down to is Quality of Life, which is what matters most to the patient. Having a severe mental illness does not mean you cannot make a rational, informed decision about whether or not to continue your life, yet people usually assume this must be the case. Such is the stigma and misinformation surrounding "Mental" illness. Physical and mental health are not two separate entities. They are intricately linked in complex ways, and this is supported by all contemporary research in the field and is explained in many medical and psychological models of health/illness. I believe they should be given equal consideration, weighting and empathy, and sufferers should be given equal rights - including the right to die with assistance.
